Nissan Sentra Cup is back in Ontario this Weekend for the Second Event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

- The Labour Day Weekend Sprints will see the Canadian series present its 9th and 10th rounds, the penultimate event of the 2024 season –

The Nissan Sentra Cup returns this weekend for it’s second event of the season in Ontario. Following the Nissan Grand Prix at ICAR (Mirabel, Quebec), the Lime Rock event (Connecticut), and the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (Quebec) two weeks ago, the fourth summer event will take place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, northeast of Toronto. Known globally as Mosport, this track has hosted eight editions of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada. The Nissan Sentra Cup will be part of a prestigious program featuring various international and national racing series during the holiday weekend.

Fans unable to attend in person can watch both races live on the series' Facebook page, Coupe Nissan Sentra Cup, on Saturday at 10:35 a.m. and Sunday at 11:25 a.m.

Driver experience is crucial on this track as it features long and fast curves. However, last May's event and subsequent races have shown that some rookies can surprise even the more seasoned drivers and end up at the front. Of the approximately twenty drivers expected to start these two new races, more than a third can dream of a podium finish.

Between the top five drivers in the standings, the battle is intense: Valérie Limoges, Nicolas Barrette, Matthieu Miron, Alexandre Fortin, and Simon Vincent. Mathematically, Valérie Limoges could secure a second title in three years this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. However, for that to happen, her closest rivals in the championship standings, Barrette and Miron, would need to finish outside the top fifteen in both races. Therefore, it is more likely that the 2024 title will be decided at the season finale in Calabogie at the end of September.

The most recent winner of a Nissan Sentra Cup race, Éric Chaput, will want to continue his momentum at CTPM as it’s one of his favourites. It is worth noting that at the start of the season, Alexandre Fortin and Nicolas Barrette won on this track.

This season, Valérie Limoges has already won three times (twice at the Nissan Grand Prix and once at the GP3R), and Matthieu Miron, the surprise contender in this battle for the 2024 title, won twice at Lime Rock, where the Nissan Sentra Cup made its American debut last month. Miron also collected two podiums in Trois-Rivières. The only title contender still fighting for a  victory, rally champion Simon Vincent, won his first podium in Sentra last year at CTMP, a track where he is always very competitive.

This Labour Day Weekend Sprints at CTMP should attract thousands of spectators, as it features the Trans Am series, Formula 3, Formula 4, Nissan Sentra Cup, NASCAR Canada, and SportsCar Canada. The Nissan Sentra Cup drivers will be in action four times during the weekend. The free practice session will take place on Friday, August 30, starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by qualifying for both races at 2:20 p.m. On Saturday, August 31, the first event, Round 9 of the 2024 Nissan Sentra Cup season, will be from 10:35 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Finally, on Sunday, September 1, the green flag for the second race will be waved at 11:25 a.m., again for 40 minutes of racing.

Livestream both races on the Nissan Sentra Cup Facebook page, Coupe Nissan Sentra Cup.
